Case alpha: How to read a Chest X-Ray (CXR)
Table of Contents
Identify the view of Chest X-Ray (CXR)
Identify the mediastinal structures on frontal view
Describe the lung lobes and cardiovascular structures
Summarize
1. Identify the frontal view of Chest X-Ray and lung lobes in that view
Identify the frontal view from the top panel and describe the lobe. (Find the color-coded key of the lobes below).
Red: Right upper lobe (RUL)
Green: Right middle lobe (RML)
Purple: Right lower lobe (RLL)
Yellow: Left upper lobe (LUL)
Blue: Left lower lobe (LLL)
2. Identify the coronal view and review the slices
Select the coronal view (labelled 'coronal C+ portal venous phase') from the top panel and use the slide-bar on right to view slices.
2. Identify the mediastinal structures on the frontal view
Identify the labeled structures on the frontal view of Chest X-Ray (a key is given here).
1. Superior vena cava
2. Right atrium
3. Inferior vena cava
4. Aortic arch
5. Main pulmonary artery
6. Left atrial appendage
7. Left ventricle
For an in-depth understanding of cardiovascular structures on the frontal view of CXR, review all the annotated slides below (select the slides to view from the top panel).
3. Review the annotated structures in the coronal view
From the annotated slides below, select the coronal view from the top panel. Use the slide-bar on right to view different slices.
3. Review the annotated structures in the axial view
From the annotated slides below, select the axial view from the top panel. Use the slide-bar on right to view different slices
4. Review the annotated structures in the coronal view
Select the coronal view from the top panel and use the slide bar on right to view different slices
3. Describe the lung lobes and cardiovascular structures on CXR
Identify and describe the structures as annotated in the case above
4. Summarize
